Why do the first look?

Should you do the “First Look”?

What Is the First Look?

The first look is when a couple sees each other for the first time on their wedding day. This intimate moment typically makes for an emotional photo opportunity.

Pros of doing the “First Look”

You can get many of the photos taken before the ceremony: It gave you a moment before the day officially started to connect with one another and take a deep breath. You can get all the bridal party shots and some couple shots before the ceremony to see some time.

It gives you and your partner a few moments together: The “First Look” does not spoil the ceremony. You will be full of emotions no matter what. It’s a moment you can be emotional without people watching you.

You can capture an emotional moment on camera: A wedding is an intimate, emotional experience, and a first look means I can capture a couple together in that moment. Yes, walking down the aisle is emotional, too, but you’re not together in those photographs.

Cons

You'll have to get ready earlier: If you’re having a ceremony earlier in the day, a first look will mean you have to be ready even earlier than you’d planned.

Lighting may not be ideal: Your photographer and videographer will try to be discrete and as far away as possible, but we will still be around. Lighting during a first look isn’t always ideal. They usually happen during the day, when lighting is harsh, so you may need to take more photos after the ceremony anyway.

When the groom is standing there waiting, he is super anxious to see his soon to be wife. He has that brief moment of silence to prepare for the moment that he is about to endure. With doing a first look, he can be emotional for you. Let’s face it, all brides want to see the groom cry. You are more likely going to see a better reaction when a hundred people are not looking at him.

Vienne Wedding

My First Indian Wedding

It was just beautiful to say the least. I am not going to lie, I was a little nervous because I have never photographed an Indian wedding and I was not sure exactly how the day would go. It was split into two nights. The first night was more about the Indian culture. I was actually really amazed at how colorful and beautiful it was. That was at Taste of India.
Check out these images from that night….

Once in awhile, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale

The admiral room was beautiful. As a photographer, I was in heaven! The natural light in this venue was just amazing. I spent the beginning playing with my settings, taking detail shots. The bride was still upstairs getting ready. I went up for a couple images of her getting ready and detail shots. I then came back down, waiting for guests arrive I just stood there in awe, like i’m here right now photographing a wedding. I sure hope I get to come back here again. Check out this venue:

The guests started to arrive and I was photographing and grouping. The mother of the bride wanted group shots during this time. I am still in awe about this. Im soaking up every once of beautiful I can. With covid, there was not as many guests as there would normally be so that didn’t take me long at all. Check out these images from the beginning of the event:

The bride was ready and the guest began to be seated…. It’s time for the ceremony! I was a little skeptical with the decision to allow guests to have their phones out, but I was not actually that bothered by it! Don’t get em started on that beautiful cake! I wanted to just wrap it up and take it home with me it was that beautiful! They had the happiest reactions to cutting the cake and I am so happy that I was able to capture it.

It’s Speech Time… They both made wonderful speeches toward each other and appreciating their family. It was clear that they were soulmates. They had so much chemistry and the way they looked at each other was like I was watching a romance film. Im so happy with the images and I really hope I get to photograph more cultural weddings.
